Connecting to Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager

Integrate Google Analytics with the platform to receive page view and e-commerce data

This guide assumes you have an existing Universal Analytics property in Google Analytics. If you don't have a Universal Analytics property you can click here to see how to create one.

What is it?

Google Analytics is used collects data from your websites and apps to create reports that provide insights into your platform

What are the benefits of it?

You can GA to track session duration, pages per session and the bounce rate. 

You can also use google analytics to track registrations, donations and page views for your site with funraisin please pop in a support ticket from your admin and our team will assist you by adding a couple of standard tags and variables to your container


Step 1

Create a Google Tag Manager account and container. The container is used to house any tags you wish to add in future and your Google Analytics settings. Here you will create your account and container names and select web as the container use option

Copy the script and noscript code provided by Google Tag Manager

In the platform navigate to platform setup > tracking and analytics and expand the Google Tag Manager section and paste the install codes in the corresponding sections.

Navigate to Event/Ecommerce Tracking and update the tracking method to Google Tag Manager

Login to your Google Analytics account and select admin in the bottom left corner, In the property column select Tracking Info and click on Tracking Code

Copy your Tracking ID, ignoring the tracking code below

Click the back arrow to go back to the column view, select Ecommerce settings, turn on Ecommerce and Enhanced Ecommerce Reporting. Click save.

Return to your Google Tag Manager account and select add a new tag

Name your tag and click on the tag configuration, this will display a list of tag types. Select Google Analytics - Universal Analytics

Ensure that track type is set to page view and select new variable from the Google Analytics Settings drop down

Enter your GA tracking ID from step 7 and ensure that the checkbox for Enhanced Ecommerce is checked as well as the Use data layer. Checking enable Display Advertising Features is optional. Click save.

Step 12

Next you need to add a trigger, click on the triggering module and select all pages page view. Finally, click save. Click preview to confirm the tags are applied correctly then publish and you’re all done!
